Donald Trump was elected President because he recognized many of the economic and social disparities that individuals faced, especially individuals in Middle America. In a rapidly changing world, working class people felt left behind. The middle class was shrinking because of outsourcing, heavy taxation and regulation Trump promised to roll back some environmental regulations to stimulate job growth, confront countries and even multinational corporations that were responsible for jobs being shipped overseas. Establishment candidates on both sides of the political spectrum such as Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton, were essentially promising more of the same. While one cannot magically make these problems disappear, they can certainly at least attempt to address them. Many workers, especially in the rust belt states, felt no such attempts were being made. In fact, they felt that career politicians were responsible for many of the problems they were facing. One cannot blame them when listening to remarks from leaders like Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who stated, were going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business (CNN Townhall Transcript). It is important to note that Mrs. Clintons husband signed the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).Many people felt this agreement was responsible for the move towards globalization we have witnessed over the last few decades. While many in the mainstream media attempt to portray Trumps victory as a white backlash to changing demographics, the facts portray a very different reality. Studies have indicated that the Obama-Trump voters, people who supported both Obama in his campaigns and Trump in 2016, were a big reason Trump was elected. Obviously, people who voted for the first black president are not intimidated or bothered by a minority (or female) holding a powerful office. Just 74 percent of white Obama voters with a high school diploma or less backed Mrs. Clinton in the voter study group cited by Mr. Milbank (Cohn, New York Times). President Trump also received a higher percentage of both the Hispanic and the African American vote than Governor Mitt Romney did in the 2012 general election. This shows that all Americans wanted to put America first displaying nationalistic feelings. On a side note, President Trumps campaign manager, Kellyane Conway, was the first female campaign manager to run a success ful general election. The campaign was never based on racism or sexism, and any efforts to describe it in those terms is an egregious misrepresentation. The forty-fifth President did something incredible, he hijacked the Republican party and proceeded to hijack what used to be the base of the Democratic party to win the general election. People were not voting based on who conformed best to the old beliefs from either party, they were voting for just the opposite. Americans wanted a successful leader. Trumps background of successful companies attest to his sound leadership. He was an executive dealing with complex negotiations and problems before being elected President. After the financial crisis of 2008, it was President Obamas job to both save and fix the economy. However, throughout Obamas eight years in office, he implemented policies that damaged the chances of any significant economic growth. Before Mr. Obama, in the 11 previous recessions since the Depression, the economy recovered all jobs lost during the recession an average of 27 months after the recession began. In Mr. Obamas recovery, dating from the summer of 2009, the recessions job losses were not recovered until after 76 months†more than six years (Ferrara, Wall Street Journal).It all comes down to economics. The populist wave President Trump capitalized on was sweeping much western society as a whole. Just a few months prior to his election here in the United States of America, Britain voted to exit the European Union. This too was a surprise to the international community. What started as the yellow jackets protesting his new environmental tax turned into a large-scale movement against his administration. The people feel he is an elitist who is out of touch with their concerns and desires. President Trump has a strong chance of winning his re-election bid in 2020.For starters, the economy is generally strong. The unemployment rate is lower than it has been in almost fifty years. African American unemployment and Hispanic unemployment are at the lowest levels theyve been in history. The Trump Administration has effectively destroyed ISIS. Although the Democratic Party has a wide range of candidates to run, none of them are high quality. Former Vice President Joe Biden admitted he was tired after campaigning for candidates during the midterm elections. Beto ORourke lost his local race to Senator Cruz in Texas, how can he be expected to win the Presidency? Kamala Harris is too far left on the political spectrum for a center right country. Mayor Bloomberg may pose a threat in a general election but he is not progressive enough to survive the primaries (and probably will not run regardless). The people did not just vote for Trump in 2016, they voted for a change. They were tired of seeing their jobs shipped overseas to other countries and they were tired of seeing their way of life changing so rapidly. The War on Masculinity and Femininity Growing up we were always told we could be and do anything we wanted to. We were taught that we could do anything the opposite sex could do and more. We didn't feel limited to our gender, but we were taught that there are differences between boys and girls that we cannot control. We cannot deny that our genders separate us from one another. Since Adam and Eve, males and females have been different, not only physically but psychologically and socially. The differences between males and females are differences that will always exists, no matter what the current trend may be or what is or isn't politically correct. There are traditional roles of males and females that we cannot escape, just as men will never be able to bear children, women will never be able to use the bathroom standing up. In the essay, ?The Male Myth?, Paul Theroux states, ?I have always disliked being a man. The whole idea of manhood in America is pitiful, a little like having to wear an ill-fitting coat for one's entire life? (700). Theroux rejects his own manhood because of the restrains he believes that society has placed on him. He believes that masculinity and femininity are ?a hideous and crippling lie... very destructive... emotionally damaging and socially harmful? (700). He seems to think that being a man entails one to ?be stupid, be unfeeling, obedient and soldierly, and [to] stop thinking? (700). To him all females are ?sexually indispensable, socially decorative and always alert to a man's sense of inadequacy? (700). Theroux unjustly believes that society should be ungendered and unsexed. Theroux makes many unfounded statements, generalizing all males and females to fit their stereotypes. He generalizes anything with masculinity or femininity as bad and evil, believing that traditional roles in society should be rejected. What Theroux does not realize is that gender is something that can not be avoided or hidden. In most cases men do not act like a stereotypical macho, abusive, and power hungry male, and not every female acts as the subservient, self conscious woman. Today in our society many males and females are switching roles, breaking away from their stereotypes. For example, many women have entered the work force and some are even bringing in a larger percentage of the household income. Many men are also choosing to stay home with the children, becoming what many call a house husband. Theroux continues to argue that such institutions as high school athletics have created the concept of manliness and the degeneration of the gender. According to Theroux, Everyone is aware of how few in number are the athletes who behave like gentlemen. Just as high school basketball teaches you how to be a poor loser, the manly attitude toward sports seems to be little more than a recipe for creating bad marriages, social misfits, moral degenerates, sadists, latent rapists and just plain louts (701). Theroux generalizes every male in his statement of athletics. He again uses stereotypes about athletes as a whole. He goes beyond the stereotype and turns everything to do with maleness and sports into something evil. He resents and disdains sports stating, ?I regard high school sports as a drug far worse than marijuana? (701). High school athletics have been a great outlet and haven for many, including males and females. As a high school athlete, one learns the concept of team work, how to win and loss with grace and composure, and helps them obtain increased self confidence. Theroux's statement applies to very few males' experience with athletics. Theroux doesn't recognize the positives of sports and doesn't seem to speak from much personal experience. In regards to his feelings of sports growing up Theroux states, ?Growing up, I had thought of sports as wasteful and humiliating, and the idea of manliness as a bore? (701). Although he is a man, he continues to rejects everything that has to do with maleness. Another argument Theroux has on masculinity is that men in the creative arts have been alienated. He states, ?All the creative arts are obnoxious to the manly ideal, because at their best the arts are pursued by uncompetitive and essentially solitary people? (701). He continues by stating, ?For many years I found it impossible to admit to myself that I wanted to be a writer. It was my guilty secret, because being a writer was incompatible with being a man? The English learned quite a bit about survival in the New World from the Native Americans. They were taught how to construct and use nets for catching fish. Also they were taught how to construct canoes, a great method of transportation and hunting. The Native Americans showed them their ways of agriculture which were far superior to the methods of the English. In the 1580s the English settlers feared the Native Americans because the land was new and unknown to them. They did not understand the ways of the Native Americans and feared them. From the settlers perspective they needed to claim and posses land in order to feel safe. Many English settlers had read articles about the Native Americans prior to there journey to the Americas. The French and Spanish had portrayed the Native Americans as Indians. Christopher Columbus wrote that the Native Arawak Indians he encountered as loving people without covetousness. Hiring someone for my old position who is exactly like me is a constraint on the new worker, if he knew that I hired him for that purpose. His tendency, as with all other subordinates, is to meet the expectations of his superior (myself), so he will try to do everything like me and think, what would my boss do if he were in my place? But this attitude does not foster growth, it does not free up the individual for the many initiative and ideas he may have for the job. The first cause of divorce may be because of not having enough financial stability from one of the spouses or both. Although, instead, the quote should say â€Å"Money is the root to all reasons marriages fail.† Money may not be the only reason it fails but could be one of the reasons. An example of this could be, if a spouse is paying for necessity based things, such as, bills and food and the other spends too much on things that are useless, this could become a problem, especially when children are involved. Most married couples tend to forget that when they say their marriage vows, there is an important line that pertains to money and that is, â€Å"Til debt do us part.† Relationships sometimes begin and the spouse may not know the financial difficulties one may be having. This could cause a problem when the couples try to buy a house or a car. Frustration could come upon them and eventually end the marriage due to the arguments. However, financial problems might n ot be the only cause of divorce. The second cause of American marriages ending in divorce could be, lack of communication. This could then lead to the spouse engaging in sexual activity with someone other than the person they married to. Sexual desire is not the only form of infidelity. Lust may be consider as adultery as well. A spouse may begin to have fantasies of being with someone else or an intense desire of love toward a person. Learning environment Essay

â€Å"The environment we are in affects our moods, the ability to form relationships and the effectiveness in work or play, even our health. † (Bullard, 2006). In effectively educating children an educator must build a foundation that has a stimulating environment which includes the inside and outside areas, classroom design and decor size. The outdoor learning area must be one that is organised in a way that promotes exploration and investigation of the elements of nature which includes planting trees and flowers, as well as nature stations where children can observe the different insects. On the other hand is the classroom design which also endorses discovery along with cooperation among peers. The centres should be spacious that enables free movement where group gathering can take place, as well as the different materials and manipulative that are easily accessible to children in the different learning areas in facilitating their knowledge. But however not only that, but as well as decor size which pertains to using child size toys, tools and furniture in the classroom that eliminates children from asking for assistance from adults, as well as allowing them to feel empowered by not requesting of their help. In providing a stimulating environment like the one that was now described would allow children to actively participate in their learning. This is so because the surroundings therefore cater for â€Å"appropriate ways in developing the vital skills, the knowledge and a positive attitude to learning in the individual needs of each child. It is based on â€Å"guiding children to observe, question, discuss, listen, manipulate, feel, investigate and develop the ability to think creatively and independently. This is defined as Active Learning. In discussing the importance of the active learning environment above which includes the inside and outside areas, classroom design as well as decor size that promotes active learning, this paper would now focus on one such area that is assessed in the internal environment, meaning a learning centre that needs to be enhanced, as well as strategies used for improvement to reflect my curriculum goals. Description of the Learning Centre that needs to be Improved While children were in the indoor setting of the classroom I took time to sit and observe what exactly was happening at each of the different centres. While monitoring I noticed that most of them were at the diverse learning areas excluding the language centre which had only about two (2) children who took a short amount of time interacting within that area. The other centres were very attraction as they had many tangible objects that children can interact with, whereas the other had old objects that were very unattractive and discoloured. Most of the materials were posters that were stuck to the wall which were there for a very long time, in turn making it appear distasteful and unappealing. In the language centre it therefore created a barrier that enabled children to further promote their language development as there were an insufficient amount of materials that catered for it. In addition, that learning centre did not cater for the children as it did not promote active learning, because as stated earlier when a centre has materials and manipulatives that are easily accessible to children it therefore facilitates their learning as it guides them to observe, engage and grasp different concepts in a simpler way. But however, there were no materials that held the attention of the children that they can become involved with; hence it developed a barricade for the active learning process to take place. When comparing the centres I have found that this is a situation that needs to be put back into working order immediately, because â€Å"language is an important skill that allows a person to communicate. † (Brannagan, 2010). It is a significant skill that is crucial in a child’s life as they use it to adequately exchange information with others in a meaningful way, as well as understanding the uses of reading and writing and becoming successful early readers and writers as it determines a successful future for them. In contrast, if this particular skill has a delay it can create complications in communication with others. This therefore can build frustration within the child since it may lead to miscommunication about what he/she is trying to convey. This is why it is important for me as an educator to address this matter quickly, so in turn children can have the opportunity to interact within that said learning centre and not only in the others, as they would gain better knowledge by coming into contact with materials and experiences that are provided for  them by adults, hence making it easier to make sense of the world around them, as well as influencing their rate of growth. This process is referred to as The Constructivist Theory in which the philosopher Jean Piaget believed that children’s learning is an active process where there is interaction between the person and the environment. This improvement of the Language Centre would be effective as it will continually provide active learning within all the centres in the classroom without the segregation of one. My Curriculum Goals within the Language Centre As stated by the National Early Childhood Care and Education Curriculum Guide in the strand Effective Communication â€Å"language and literacy play a critical role in the development of children’s thinking, learning and communication. To develop into successful, contributing adults, children must learn to be effective communicators and masters of their official language. † (Ministry of Education , 2005) With this being said my curriculum goals within the Language Centre are taken from the National Early Childhood Care and Education Curriculum Guide. The goals are as follows: ? A growing awareness that speaking is an effective way to communicate thoughts, ideas and views. ?A growing awareness that print (common signs and symbols) conveys meaning. ?An increasing understanding of some symbols, language patterns, letter sound relationships to predict, confirm or make meanings from using their hundred languages, which includes multimodal texts. ?Develop ways to experiment with conventional letters, word signs and symbols to convey meaning. ?Understanding of the relationship between letters and sounds. Develop ways to explore how symbols and written and visual texts are used to communicate meaning. ?The ability to derive and convey the meaning of common signs and symbols (exit signs, area labels etc. ) in the various environments (school, home, community. ) ? A love for listening to and retelling familiar stories, as well as a desire to â€Å"read† on their own. Learn new vocabulary and extend language to communicate and negotiate ideas and plan for activities. Strategies used for Improvement in the Language Centre Letters are all around us! Therefore using environmental prints stuck to the wall in the language centre such as signs, labels and logos can be of great assistance in accomplishing some of my stated goals in developing children’s reading skills. This was stated by Colorin Colorado as an influential method in making the connection between letters and first efforts to read. It discusses how adults can make these techniques interesting to a child’s learning in talking about letters, words and print. In the language centre I can provide picture cards along with letter cards as well so that children can make the distinction between sounds and their letters as they are able to match the letter sound card to their pictures. Other materials may include ABC books, magnetic letters, alphabet blocks and puzzles as well as alphabet charts. It has a positive effect because it’s easier in learning alphabet letters as well as the letter sound knowledge that enables them to add letters together to form words and in turn add words together to form sentences; in addition it also provides the knowledge of print awareness and early reading abilities; Incorporating Interactive and Dialog Reading declared by the U. It was hard to achieve, but however after sometime we would be able to achieve it to facilitate the children’s learning. Conclusion In discussing the strategies above that I have undertaken in enhancing the Language Centre in my classroom in reflecting my goals, it has enabled me to realize how unique this learning area is to the children in the environment and to there future. When adults create rich language and literacy environments with the appropriate materials, manipulatives and teacher learning strategies to further endorse the important skills, it boosts the child’s vocabulary along with the use of language, which in turn increases their likelihood of future success.

How could we, anyhow, when all we ever do is use our language to communicate our feelings or converse with others about their own feelings? It is also a well-known fact that men use imperatives, Tannen says, whereas women use hidden directives; or, I mean, I guess they could, maybe. But, what does this mean? Does gender inequality stem from grammar and syntax? Can we emotional women, with our hidden directives, blame ourselves and our language for the patriarchy? Tannen might be shouting Yes! Let us first deconstruct gender: it is merely a construct. We live in a world where we colour-code our children in desperation to keep the gender binary system going, and we divide everything according to gender: cats are feminine, dogs are masculine, toy cars are for boys, and dolls are for girls. The division carries on into stereotypes: women are social, men are commanding, girls are emotional, boys are rational. From Sex and the City to What Women Want, these stereotypes are reflected in the media and broadcasted left, right, and centre. Men and women are shown to be polar opposites, completely unable to understand each other, and its all because of their language. Middle-aged women speak like prepubescent teenage girls, using words such as sort of or the ever-present filler like: minor interjections that show women are active listeners, says Tannen, and caring, domestic, beings. Men- if they talk to each other at all- are commanding and avoid confronting their feelings because they are, after all, far too driven by problem-solving and real problems, not their miniscule emotions. The amount of times I have seen or heard married couples bicker and argue on televised sitcoms is ridiculous, and its the same pattern every time: men dont understand what women are saying, and women cant seem to comprehend what men mean. Be it for comedic purpose or otherwise, these stereotypes and seemingly innate differences in language, or conversational styles as Tannen puts it, were drilled inside of all of our heads from a very young age, and the effect is momentous. The classic example is the exchange of Whats wrong? Nothing. Picture the scene: a married couple utters those phrases. Who asks the question, and who answers it? I can guarantee you three things. Firstly, you pictured a man and woman. Secondly, you imagined the woman answering. Thirdly, she probably didnt have a very nice tone of voice. Am I a magician, really good at guessing, or is there more to the issue than it seems? The phrase nothing haunts millions of married men, as those two words are built to never truly mean nothing because, as Tannen has showed us, womens speech is loaded with complex meaning, ready to be enciphered by mens rational brains, yet it seems men are never quite able to do so, perhaps because nothing simply means nothing; nothing more and nothing less, despite the media often portraying quite the opposite. The media creates these situations of miscommunication between men and women. Although vaguely based on reality, one can hardly argue that they accurately depict this wonderfully complex world we live in. Generalisation is a dangerous thing, and yet, Tannen devises equally generalised assumptions and psychological theories to explain this division of language broadcasted in the media and transferred to real life. To answer the previous question I asked, the patriarchy came first, and Tannens work did nothing but compose a deeper division between men and women that the media was already keen on creating. We arent two tribes heading for war. Men arent from Mars, and women arent from Venus. Perhaps someone should explain to Mrs. Tannen that there are extra-terrestrial forms of life. We all are, in fact, from planet Earth; our lovely home with its wonderful entrenched sexism.
